Game Gallery

The Game Gallery is where you find a game and start it. It is the screen CardTray opens on.

Categories

Across the top, the 15 categories are fanned out like a hand of cards: Klondike, Foundations, Forty Thieves, FreeCell, Canfield, Spider, Pairing, Fan, Yukon, Baker's Dozen, Beleaguered Castle, Scorpion, Pyramid, Golf and Raglan. Each card shows its name and how many games it holds; hover one for a description. Click a category to deal its games in below, grouped into sub-families with a line explaining each.

One category is always selected — there is no "everything" view. To look across the whole library, search.

Type into the search box (Search every game (try "Patience")). Results come from every category, best match first, and include games that are better known by another name. Picking a category ends the search. The ✕ in the box clears it.

Sort and filters

Filters opens a row of controls. A number on the button shows how many filters are on.

  • Sort — Favourites, Recently played, Most played, Win rate, A–Z (the default) or New. Sorting is switched off while you search, because search results are ranked by best match.
  • Decks — one deck, two decks, and so on.
  • Stock — Draw 1, Draw 3, No stock or Other stock.
  • Deal — Open (all face up) or Closed (face-down cards).
  • Redeals — Redeals allowed or No redeals.
  • Status — Verified or Beta (see below).

Clear filters resets them all. The row also counts how many games match, out of the whole library. A filter never hides a category from the fan — it only changes the count.

A game's card

Each game card shows a small preview of its opening layout, its name, and how many times you have played and won it.

  • Play starts a new deal. If you already have a game of it in progress, the button reads Continue and picks that game up instead.
  • The star adds it to (or removes it from) your favourites — sort by Favourites to bring them to the front.
  • The ⓘ button opens the game's details.

A Beta label means the game's rules are still being checked against the original and may change. Beta games are fully playable and count toward your stats. Two differences: a Beta game offers Report a problem in its pause menu, and Beta games never count toward achievements or the Daily Challenge.

Game details

The details window shows the game's category, its deck count, stock type, whether the deal is open or closed and whether redeals are allowed, plus any other names it goes by. It has:

  • Continue (N moves) — when you have a game of it in progress.
  • New deal — a fresh random deal.
  • Seed and Play seed… — every deal has a number. Type one (a whole number from 0 to 2147483647) to play that exact deal: the same number always deals the same cards, on any PC. It is how you replay a deal a friend found, or one from your history.
  • Your stats — played, won, win rate, current and best streak, best score, fastest win, fewest moves and when you last played. Before your first finished game it reads No finished games of … yet.
  • The rules — objective, setup, how to play, winning, and tips.
  • Related games — similar games from the same family. Click one to open its details.

One game of each kind at a time

You can have one game in progress per variant: one Klondike, one FreeCell and one Spider at once is fine, two Klondikes is not. If you start a new deal of a game you already have in progress, CardTray asks Abandon the current game? first:

  • Continue that game — go back to the one in progress.
  • Abandon and deal — end it and deal the new one. If you had made any moves it counts as a loss; if you had not, it is simply discarded.
  • Cancel — do nothing.

What usually goes wrong

A game I was playing isn't where I left it. It is: its card says Continue. You can also use Continue last game in the tray menu. Leaving a game never ends it — see Playing a game.

"Couldn't read your games". The game database could not be read. Restart CardTray. If it persists, use Feedback in the sidebar.

Play seed… stays greyed out. The seed must be a whole number from 0 to 2147483647 — no letters, spaces or decimals.
