Daily Challenge
One new deal every day, the same deal for every player. Your first finished attempt each day counts toward your streak; after that, retry as often as you like to beat your best.
Today's deal
The top of the screen shows your Current streak — consecutive days with a scored Daily win — and your Best. Below it is today's game, with one button:
- Play — start today's deal. Your first finished attempt counts for your streak. Retries after that only chase your best.
- Continue — today's attempt is in progress; pick up where you left off.
- Retry — today is already scored. The card shows whether you won or lost, with your time and moves. Retries never change today's result.
Every Daily can be won. Each day's deal is one the solver has proved has a winning line. That is about a player who can see every face-down card, so an honest player can still lose one. See Solvers.
After a scored result, Share copies a one-line summary — date, game, result, time, moves and streak — to paste anywhere. It contains no seed, so it never gives the deal away.
A Daily game plays exactly like any other — see Playing a game — and its top bar says · Daily. The Is this winnable? button is not offered on a Daily game.
The tray icon carries a small Daily badge while today's Daily Challenge is still unplayed, and Today's Daily Challenge on the tray menu opens this screen.
The calendar
The calendar marks each day Won, Lost, Missed or Practice only, with today ringed. Use the arrows to go back through earlier months.
Click a missed or practised day to play that day's deal as practice. Practice games show on the calendar but never count toward a streak, and their top bar says · Practice.
Reminders
After your first scored Daily win, CardTray offers two reminders, once — Want a reminder tomorrow? Both stay off unless you switch them on:
- Tell me when the new Daily is ready — a Windows notification, Today's deal is ready., at 9:00 by default.
- Warn me in the evening if my N-day streak is at risk — shown once your streak is 3 or more. At 20:00, if you have not played today, a notification says Your N-day streak ends at midnight.
You get at most one reminder a day, and none on a day you have already played. Reminders use your PC's local time.
What usually goes wrong
"The first Daily Challenge unlocks when games are verified". Every Daily is drawn from fully verified games, so a streak can never be lost to a rules bug. Until the first games pass verification there is no Daily. Every game in the library is open to play in the meantime — Browse the library takes you there.
My retry didn't change today's result. By design: only the first finished attempt of the day counts. Retries chase your best.
I missed a day and my streak reset. Missed days can still be played as practice, but practice never repairs a streak.
I want to change or turn off a reminder. The reminder prompt says you can change them later in Settings, but this version of Settings has no reminder controls. The prompt appears only once.
"Couldn't abandon the current game." Games can only be changed while bandwidth sharing is on. See How CardTray is funded.
