How to Play Demon Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Demon Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A two-deck game with a deep reserve pile and unlimited redeals. Draw three cards at a time from the stock and work from both the reserve and the tableau to build eight foundations.

Setup

  1. One card is dealt to a foundation to set this deal's random base rank; every foundation needs a card of that same rank to get started.
  2. A single reserve pile holds 40 cards face down, with only the top card face up.
  3. Deal one card to each of 8 tableau piles.
  4. Keep the remaining cards in the stock to draw 3 at a time.

How to play

  • Click the stock to deal 3 cards to the waste pile; only the top card is available to play.
  • Play cards to build foundations up in suit from the base rank, wrapping around.
  • The top card of the reserve can move to tableau or foundations.
  • Build the tableau down in opposite colors (a red 6 goes on a black 7).
  • You can move sequences together when each card is one rank lower and opposite color.
  • When a tableau pile empties, the top card of the reserve automatically fills it.
  • Cards move to the foundations automatically once they can't be built on anymore—you can change this behavior in Settings.
  • When the stock runs out, click it to turn the waste back over as a new stock for unlimited redeals.

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundation piles.

You win when all cards reach the foundations. Plan carefully—the reserve is your lifeline, since 40 of its cards start face down and only reveal one at a time.

Tips

  • The reserve gives you flexibility; don't waste its cards early.
  • Build long alternating-color sequences in the tableau to create landing spots for reserve and waste cards.
