How to Play Triple Interchange Solitaire

2 min read
The opening deal of Triple Interchange Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

Build foundations from Ace while managing a tableau where cards alternate between hidden and visible. The unique dealing pattern creates tactical puzzles as you uncover blocked cards through careful play.

Setup

  1. Nine tableau piles receive 9 cards each, with alternating cards face-down (even positions hidden, odd positions visible)
  2. Twelve foundation piles (three for each suit) start empty
  3. The stock deals one card at a time to the waste pile, with unlimited redeals

How to play

  • Look for Aces in the visible cards to start your foundation piles
  • On the tableau, place cards one rank lower in the exact same suit (a 6 of hearts on a 7 of hearts)
  • Move complete runs together when properly ordered
  • Play cards from the waste and tableau to the foundations in suit order; matching cards move automatically when no other move is possible
  • Click the stock to draw one card; when empty, click again to redeal the waste
  • As visible cards move away, face-down cards underneath are automatically revealed

How to win

Objective: Move every card to the foundations, building up from Ace in each suit.

You win when all 156 cards are built into the foundations. You're stuck when no cards can move and redeals don't help.

Tips

  • Prioritize exposing face-down cards by moving visible cards to the foundations quickly
  • When moving between tableau piles, think about which cards get revealed below
  • Same-suit builds can be tricky—make sure you're not blocking important cards

More games from the Klondike family:

  • Triple Left — A challenging variant of Moving Left where you work with 12 tableau piles and must complete the game with just one pass through the stock.
  • Unlimited — Unlimited gives you as many passes through the stock as you need: once it's empty, just turn the waste back over and keep going while you build up eight foundations across two decks.
  • Westcliff — A moderately easy solitaire game where you work with a large tableau of ten piles and a single deck.
  • Agnes Sorel — Similar to Agnes Bernauer but designed more like Spider: the random base rank starts the foundations, and tableau piles build in the same suit color instead of alternating colors.
  • Alternations — Alternations uses two decks across eight foundation piles and a 7x7 tableau where every other card in each pile is face-down.
