How to Play Westcliff Solitaire

A moderately easy solitaire game where you work with a large tableau of ten piles and a single deck. Only the top card of each pile starts face up, and you build down toward the foundations while drawing through the stock.
Setup
- The deck is dealt into ten tableau piles, with three cards to each pile
- Only the top card of each pile is face up; the others are hidden
- Four foundation piles start empty—an Ace placed there begins each one
- A stock pile remains to the side; click it to draw additional cards
How to play
- Click the stock to draw one card at a time into the waste pile
- Build the foundations from Ace up to King in the same suit
- In the tableau, place a card one rank lower and opposite color on any card (a red 6 on a black 7)
- Move sequences together if each card in the sequence follows the same pattern
- Empty tableau piles can receive any card or sequence
- Cards that can no longer be built on in the tableau automatically move to the foundations—you can change this in the settings if you prefer
- You can only go through the stock once, so plan carefully
How to win
Objective: Move every card to the four foundation piles, building each from Ace to King in the same suit.
You win when all cards are in the foundations. You're stuck when no more moves remain and the stock is exhausted.
Tips
- Expose hidden cards early by strategically moving cards from piles
- Try to keep at least one empty tableau pile open to maximize your flexibility
- Look ahead before moving sequences—sometimes leaving cards in place opens better opportunities

- Alternations — Alternations uses two decks across eight foundation piles and a 7x7 tableau where every other card in each pile is face-down.
- Brazilian — A two-deck variant where cards are dealt to the tableau in a pyramid pattern instead of a waste pile, offering more control and visibility over future plays.
- Bristol — A three-waste-pile game where you build the tableau regardless of suit and use the stock strategically to access cards.
- Bureau — A two-deck Klondike relative with 13 tableau piles, where foundations build in opposite colors and you get one extra pass through the stock.
