How to Play Brazilian Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Brazilian Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A two-deck variant where cards are dealt to the tableau in a pyramid pattern instead of a waste pile, offering more control and visibility over future plays. The goal: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundations to win.

Setup

  1. Deal cards to 10 tableau piles in pyramidal fashion: 1 card to the first pile, 2 to the second, continuing to 10 cards in the last pile (55 cards total)
  2. Only the top card of each tableau pile is face up
  3. The remaining 49 cards form the stock

How to play

  • Build each foundation up by suit from Ace to King
  • On the tableau, build downward by alternating colors (red 8 on black 9, etc.)
  • Move card runs together when each card in the run is one rank lower in opposite color
  • A move can be a single card or a full run, but it must start from the topmost (exposed) card of the pile
  • Empty tableau piles accept only a King
  • Click the stock to deal one card onto each tableau pile
  • The stock has only one pass; no redeal
  • Eligible cards move to the foundations on their own once no other card could be played on them; you can change this behavior in Settings if you prefer

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundations to win.

You win when all 104 cards reach the foundations. Plan your moves carefully since there's no redeal and empty piles are restricted.

Tips

  • The pyramid deal means deeper piles have more buried cards; prioritize exposing them
  • Kings open up empty spaces; use them strategically to move runs
  • Think ahead about the stock sequence; you only get one pass
