Klondike

How to Play Double Gold Rush Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Double Gold Rush Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

This two-deck relative of Klondike deals a rising pyramid of tableau piles and shrinks the stock deal each time you go through it. Clear both decks to the eight foundations before the stock runs dry.

Setup

  1. Eight foundation piles wait for Aces, one per suit from each of the two decks
  2. Ten tableau piles rise in size: 1 card in the first pile, 2 in the second, up to 10 in the last, with only the top card of each pile face up
  3. The rest of the deck sits in the stock, ready for three passes

How to play

  • Build each foundation up from Ace to King in the same suit
  • Cards move to the foundations automatically once they can't be built anywhere else; you can change this behavior in Settings
  • In the tableau, build downward in alternating colors (red on black, black on red)
  • Move a card, or a run that follows the color pattern, between tableau piles
  • When you clear a face-up card off a pile, the face-down card beneath turns face-up automatically
  • Click the stock to deal cards to the waste pile and play the top waste card—3 at a time on the first pass, 2 at a time on the second, and 1 at a time on the third and final pass
  • Empty tableau spaces accept only Kings
  • The top card of a foundation pile can be moved back into the tableau if you need it

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundations

You win when all cards reach the foundations. You're stuck when the third pass through the stock ends and no more moves are possible.

Tips

  • Plan ahead—each pass through the stock deals fewer cards, so make the most of the first one
  • Create empty spaces (which only Kings can fill) to maneuver difficult sequences
  • Focus on moving cards to foundations when you can't make better tableau moves
