How to Play Double Trigon Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Double Trigon Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A two-deck variant with a triangular tableau arrangement. Build down in suit while you cycle through an unlimited stock pile that you can revisit as many times as needed.

Setup

  1. Eight foundation piles start empty, ready for Aces
  2. Nine tableau piles are arranged in a triangle: the first has 1 card, the second has 2, and so on up to 9 cards in the bottom row
  3. Each pile is dealt with only its top card face-up; the rest stay face-down until exposed
  4. A stock pile holds the remaining cards; you can cycle through it unlimited times

How to play

  • Move any exposed card from the tableau or waste to a foundation (building up in suit from Ace to King) or to another tableau pile (building down in the same suit)
  • You can move runs in the tableau when each card is one rank lower (same suit) than the one it covers
  • Only the top card of each tableau pile is visible; once you move it, the next card flips up automatically
  • Deal from the stock by clicking; when it's empty, click it again to turn the waste over and continue (unlimited redeals)
  • Empty tableau piles accept only a King
  • Cards automatically move to the foundations once no other card can be built on them—this behavior is adjustable in Settings

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundations, building each suit from Ace to King.

All cards reach the foundations. You're stuck when all exposed cards have no legal moves, even with unlimited stock cycles.

Tips

  • Use the unlimited redeals to your advantage—don't rush; cycle the stock multiple times to find the cards you need
  • Expose buried cards in the triangle early by moving visible cards to foundations and building runs
  • Empty tableau piles are rare but valuable—only Kings can fill them, so use them strategically
