How to Play Interchange Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Interchange Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A challenging two-deck solitaire where you build tableau piles downward by suit and work through a single-card stock. Cards are dealt in an alternating pattern of face-up and face-down, making the board gradually more accessible as you play.

Setup

  1. Deal 7 tableau piles with 7 cards each; odd-numbered cards are face-up, even-numbered cards are face-down
  2. Set aside 8 foundation piles (two for each suit, since two decks are in play) starting with Aces
  3. Keep a stock pile of remaining cards

How to play

  • Click the stock to deal one card at a time to the waste pile; once it's exhausted, no redeal is available
  • Build tableau piles downward by one rank within the same suit
  • Move sequences of cards together when each is one rank lower in the same suit
  • Cards automatically move to the foundations once no other card could be built on them (you can change this in Settings if preferred)
  • Build foundation piles upward by rank within each suit
  • When you clear the cards covering a face-down card, it turns face-up automatically
  • Empty piles accept only Kings; use these strategically to rearrange sequences

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the foundations, building each suit from Ace up to King.

You win when all 104 cards are arranged in the 8 foundation piles, with each containing a complete suit from Ace to King. This is a difficult game that rewards careful planning and efficient use of King piles.

Tips

  • Expose face-down cards methodically to reveal new options and foundation cards
  • Manage empty piles carefully; creating a King pile early provides crucial flexibility
  • Build foundation piles aggressively to free up tableau space, but not at the cost of blocking future moves
