How to Play Double Dot Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Double Dot Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

Double Dot deals with four foundation piles already holding a starting card and eight tableau piles of single face-up cards. Build each foundation by stepping two ranks at a time until every suit is stacked in its own pile.

Setup

  1. Four foundation piles start filled: two begin with an Ace and two begin with a Two, with each pair using one red and one black card
  2. Eight tableau piles are dealt one face-up card each
  3. The rest of the deck waits in the stock for a single deal-through

How to play

  • Each foundation pile is limited to one suit; build it up by adding a card two ranks higher than the top card, wrapping past King until all 13 cards of that suit are stacked
  • Cards move to the foundations automatically once they can't be built anywhere else on the tableau; you can change this behavior in Settings
  • In the tableau, build down by two ranks in any suit, such as a 9 onto a Jack
  • You can move a card, or a run where each card steps down two ranks, as a group
  • Any card can start a new pile in an empty tableau spot
  • Click the stock to deal one card onto every tableau pile; you only get one pass through the stock
  • The top card of a foundation pile can be moved back into play if you need it

How to win

Objective: Move all 52 cards to the foundations

You win when all cards reach the foundations. You're stuck when the stock runs out and no more moves are possible.

Tips

  • Plan ahead before dealing from the stock, since you only get one pass through it
  • Create empty tableau spaces early to give yourself room to maneuver
  • If you get stuck, remember you can pull the top card off a foundation pile back into the tableau
