How to Play Boulevard Solitaire

2 min read
The opening deal of Boulevard Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A complex two-deck game with two separate foundation suites—one climbing from Ace and another from Two, each jumping two ranks at a time—giving multiple paths to victory. The goal: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundation piles to win.

Setup

  1. Deal 1 card to each of 9 tableau piles
  2. Set aside three reserve piles of 6 cards each, only the top card of each face up and playable
  3. Deal an Ace of each suit to start one set of four foundation piles, and a Two of each suit to start a second set of four
  4. The remaining 69 cards form the stock

How to play

  • First foundation suite builds up by twos in suit from Ace: Ace, 3, 5, 7, 9, J, K, then that pile is complete (no wraparound)
  • Second foundation suite also builds up by twos in suit, but starts from Two and wraps around after Queen: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, Q, Ace, 3, 5, 7, 9, J, K
  • Tableau piles hold only one card each
  • When you empty a tableau pile, it is immediately refilled with the top card from the waste, or from the stock if the waste is empty
  • Only the top card of the tableau, reserve, or waste pile is playable
  • Click the stock to deal one card to the waste; you get three passes through the stock in total, with the waste turned back into the stock between passes

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundation piles to win.

You win when all 104 cards are in the foundations. Empty reserve piles stay empty—manage them carefully.

Tips

  • Both foundation suites are equally important; work on both throughout the game
  • Reserve piles are finite; use them strategically since they won't refill
  • Use your three passes through the stock wisely to access buried cards in your sequence
