How to Play Inquisitor Solitaire

2 min read
The opening deal of Inquisitor Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A two-deck solitaire where you build tableau piles downward by suit and work through a stock pile in three-card batches. The pyramid deal and three total passes through the stock make it more forgiving than many similar games.

Setup

  1. Deal 10 tableau piles in a pyramid pattern: 1 card to the first pile, 2 to the second, and so on through 10 piles, all dealt face-up
  2. Set aside 8 foundation piles (two for each suit, since two decks are in play) starting with Aces
  3. Keep a stock pile of remaining cards

How to play

  • Click the stock to deal 3 cards at a time to the waste pile; only the top card is playable
  • Build tableau piles downward by one rank within the same suit
  • Move sequences of cards together when each is one rank lower in the same suit
  • Cards automatically move to the foundations once no other card could be built on them (you can change this in Settings if preferred)
  • Build foundation piles upward by rank within each suit
  • Empty piles can be filled with any available card
  • When the stock is exhausted, turn the waste pile back over to form a new stock (3 total passes allowed)

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the foundations, building each suit from Ace up to King.

You win when all 104 cards are arranged in the 8 foundation piles, with each containing a complete suit from Ace to King. The game allows three passes through the stock, giving you multiple chances to find winning moves.

Tips

  • Since every card is dealt face-up, plan several moves ahead to clear the tallest tableau piles
  • Use empty piles to manage the pyramid structure and rearrange sequences
  • The three passes through the stock are generous; plan carefully to make the most of them
