How to Play Indefatigable Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Indefatigable Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A single-deck solitaire where the entire deck is dealt out at the start, four Aces already in the foundations. Build tableau sequences up or down within each suit, and use your two redeals if you get stuck, to send every card home.

Setup

  1. Place the 4 Aces in the foundations to start
  2. Deal the rest of the deck into 12 tableau piles of 4 cards each, all face-up

How to play

  • Build tableau piles upward or downward by one rank, staying within the same suit
  • Only the top card of each tableau pile can be moved, to another tableau pile or to a foundation
  • Cards automatically move to the foundations once no other card could be built on them (you can change this in Settings if preferred)
  • Build foundation piles upward by rank within each suit, starting from the Aces already in place
  • When a tableau pile becomes empty, you can fill it with any available card
  • When stuck, use the Redeal button (available twice) to shuffle the tableau and deal it back out in the original pile size

How to win

Objective: Move all 52 cards to the foundations, building each suit from Ace up to King.

You win when all 52 cards are arranged in the 4 foundation piles, each containing a complete suit from Ace to King. With two redeals available, you have opportunities to reshuffle and try different arrangements.

Tips

  • Look for chains that let you build both up and down within a suit to reach buried cards
  • Create empty piles when you can; they're your main tool for repositioning stuck cards
  • Use redeals strategically when you reach a dead end; they give you a chance to rearrange the entire tableau

  • Perseverance B — Perseverance B is a companion to Perseverance A: the four aces start on the foundations, and you clear the rest of the deck from twelve tableau piles by moving same-suit sequences.
  • Ripple Fan — A one-deck game related to Cruel, spreading the deck across thirteen tableau piles instead of twelve so you have a little more room to build same-suit runs down to the foundations.
  • Royal Family — A forgiving single-deck game where all 52 cards are dealt out up front: foundations descend from Kings while tableau piles let you build both up and down in the same suit.
