Baker's Dozen

How to Play Four Leaf Clovers Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Four Leaf Clovers Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A single-deck game where every card lands on one shared foundation pile, no matter its suit, climbing upward one rank at a time and wrapping from King back to Ace to place all 52 cards. The goal: Move all 52 cards to the single foundation, building in ascending order regardless of suit

Setup

  1. Use one standard 52-card deck
  2. Deal four cards face up to each of thirteen tableau piles
  3. Place one foundation pile above the tableau

How to play

  • Build the single foundation upward regardless of suit: place any card one rank higher than the current top card. After placing the King, continue with Ace, then Two, going around the ranks four times to place all 52 cards. Cards automatically move to the foundation when they can no longer be built on in the tableau (adjustable in Settings)
  • Keep sending cards to the foundation as they become playable until the whole deck is placed there
  • In the tableau, build upward or downward regardless of suit: place any card one rank higher or lower, and ranks wrap here, so a King and an Ace can sit on each other
  • Only the top card of each tableau pile can be moved
  • Empty tableau spaces cannot be refilled—once empty, they remain empty
  • Work systematically to clear tableau piles toward the end of the game

How to win

Objective: Move all 52 cards to the single foundation, building in ascending order regardless of suit

You win when all 52 cards reach the single foundation. You're stuck when no moves exist before the deck is complete.

Tips

  • In the tableau, the King-to-Ace wrap gives you extra flexibility when looking for a spot to unbury a card
  • Clear shorter piles early so empty spaces at the end don't trap cards
  • Use the bidirectional building in the tableau to access buried cards
