How to Play Dimes Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Dimes Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

Start your foundations at Ten instead of the traditional Ace in this two-deck variant. With eight foundation piles and eight tableau piles, each dealing a single card, this is a focused test of card sequencing.

Setup

  1. Shuffle two full decks together.
  2. Deal eight Tens to start the eight foundation piles.
  3. Deal 1 card to each of 8 tableau piles.
  4. Place remaining cards (88 total) in the stock and an empty waste pile.

How to play

  • Click the stock to deal one card at a time to the waste pile.
  • On the foundations, build up by rank and suit from Ten: Ten, Jack, Queen, King, Ace, Two... Nine. The sequence wraps around.
  • On the tableau, build down by rank and suit: play a Nine on a Ten of the same suit, an Eight on a Nine, and so on.
  • You can only move one card at a time in this game.
  • Fill empty tableau piles with any available card to keep your options open.
  • You get one pass through the stock—no redeal allowed.
  • The game automatically moves cards to the foundations when they can't be used elsewhere in the tableau (you can adjust this behavior in Settings).

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundation piles, each building up by suit from Ten to Ace (which wraps around after King).

You win when all cards reach the eight foundation piles. The game ends when the stock is depleted and no more legal moves remain.

Tips

  • Focus on building the longest tableau sequences to expose buried cards and create empty piles.
  • Remember that only single cards move between piles, so empty tableau spaces are valuable for rearranging.
  • Plan waste pile moves carefully since you only get one pass through the stock.
