How to Play Ace of Hearts Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Ace of Hearts Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A single-foundation puzzle: all 52 cards must land on one pile starting with the Ace of Spades. After placing each King, play wraps back to Ace to complete the sequence twice. Seven pyramid-shaped tableau piles hold the rest of the deck.

Setup

  1. One foundation pile, which must start with the Ace of Spades
  2. Seven tableau piles dealt in a pyramid: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 cards, all face up

How to play

  • Click the stock to deal one card onto each of the seven tableau piles
  • Build tableau piles downward by one rank in the same suit
  • Move a group of face-up cards together as a unit even if they aren't in sequence; only the bottom card of the group needs to fit where it lands
  • Start the foundation with the Ace of Spades, then add cards one rank higher regardless of suit. After placing a King, continue with an Ace of any suit, then back up to King again to complete the double sequence
  • Only a King can fill an empty tableau pile
  • Work through the stock once—there's no redeal
  • Cards automatically move to the foundation when they can't be built on any other cards—you can change this behavior in Settings

How to win

Objective: Move all 52 cards onto the single foundation pile, which must start with the Ace of Spades, climb by rank regardless of suit, and wrap around from King back to Ace to place every card.

You win when all 52 cards are in the foundation pile. You're stuck when you can't play any more cards and cards remain in the tableau.

Tips

  • Keep track of which rank the foundation needs next—once the Ace of Spades is down, suit no longer matters
  • Don't bury the Ace of Spades or the cards that follow it under tableau builds
  • Watch for Kings: they're the only cards that can fill empty tableau spots
