How to Play Trusty Twelve Solitaire

2 min read
The opening deal of Trusty Twelve Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

Trusty Twelve races you through a single pass of the stock while you juggle twelve open tableau piles, chaining cards downward regardless of suit to keep spots open for whatever comes next. The goal: Use up all cards in the stock and waste

Setup

  1. Use a single 52-card deck
  2. Deal one card face-up to each of 12 tableau piles
  3. Place the remaining 40 cards in the stock

How to play

  • On the tableau, place a card one rank lower on another card, regardless of suit
  • Only the top card of each pile can be moved
  • Any card can be placed into an empty tableau pile
  • Empty tableau piles are automatically refilled from the stock
  • You get only one pass through the stock with no redeal
  • Move cards strategically to expose better options

How to win

Objective: Use up all cards in the stock and waste

You win by using all stock cards before the game becomes blocked. The game ends when the stock is empty and no legal moves remain.

Tips

  • Plan ahead before each move—every decision affects what stock cards you'll need later
  • Try to keep multiple empty spaces available for flexibility
  • Expose high cards early so they don't block your sequences late in the game
