How to Play Bunker Solitaire

2 min read
The opening deal of Bunker Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A straightforward game where you use the stock to fill empty spaces and build the tableau upward by rank in any suit. The goal: Use up every card in the stock and waste pile by moving them to the tableau.

Setup

  1. Deal 1 card face up to each of 8 tableau piles.
  2. Place remaining cards as the stock, with 19 cards visible.
  3. Leave space for a waste pile.

How to play

  • Click the stock to deal one card to the waste pile.
  • Move cards from the waste or tableau to build piles upward by rank in any suit—place a 7 on a 6, for example.
  • Only the top card of each pile is playable.
  • Fill empty tableau piles with any available card.
  • Keep moving cards until the stock runs out—there's only one pass through the stock, with no redeal.
  • The goal is to exhaust the stock and waste, regardless of how the tableau looks at the end.

How to win

Objective: Use up every card in the stock and waste pile by moving them to the tableau.

Win by using up all cards in the stock and waste. You succeed if you manage this before getting stuck.

Tips

  • Focus on building sequences rather than creating empty piles.
  • Think ahead about which waste cards will come up and prepare space for them.
  • Empty piles can hold any card, so use them strategically to access waste cards.
