How to Play Rows of Four Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Rows of Four Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

Move all cards to eight foundations by building suits upward while arranging tableau piles in any order. With three passes through the stock and flexible tableau building, this game offers more room for recovery than most.

Setup

  1. Deal 4 cards face-up to each of 8 tableau piles
  2. Eight foundation piles (two per suit, since two decks are in play) start empty and build up from Aces
  3. Keep remaining cards face-down as the stock; you get 3 passes total (deal, redeal, redeal again)

How to play

  • Build foundation piles upward by rank in the same suit (Ace through King)
  • Build tableau piles downward by rank in any suit; only the top card of each pile can move
  • Play cards from the waste pile's top card to foundations or tableau
  • Click the stock to deal one card to the waste pile
  • Cards automatically move to the foundations when no other card could be built on them; this behavior can be changed in Settings
  • Empty tableau piles accept any card
  • When the stock empties, click it again to redeal the waste pile as a new stock (up to 2 redeals)

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundation piles

You win when all cards reach the foundations. You're stuck when you've used all three passes and no more moves are possible.

Tips

  • Save empty tableau piles for strategic card placement; you have plenty of room to maneuver
  • Prioritize getting long runs of mixed suits into the tableau to free up waste cards
  • With redeals available, don't rush plays to the foundations if they block better tableau builds
