How to Play Irmgard Solitaire

2 min read
The opening deal of Irmgard Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

Build in alternating colors across nine tableau piles while the stock feeds new cards. This two-deck variant of Gypsy gives you an extra space to work with.

Setup

  1. Deal three cards to each of nine tableau piles, with only the top card face up
  2. Eight foundation piles wait empty at the top
  3. One stock pile holds the remaining cards

How to play

  • Build the foundations up in suit from Ace to King
  • On the tableau, stack cards face up in descending order with opposite colors (8 of hearts on 9 of spades)
  • Move sequences together if each card in the sequence is one rank lower with the opposite color
  • Click the stock to deal one card face up onto every tableau pile
  • Empty tableau spaces only accept a King or a sequence starting with a King
  • Cards automatically move to the foundations once there are no other cards that could be built on them (you can change this behavior in Settings)

How to win

Objective: Move all cards to the eight foundations.

Win when all cards move to the foundations. The stock runs only once—there's no redeal, so plan carefully.

Tips

  • Create empty spaces by moving entire sequences, not just single cards
  • Work to expose face-down cards early
  • The stock deals only once with no redeal, so use it thoughtfully
