How to Play Lady Jane Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Lady Jane Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

An approachable two-deck game that blends Spider and Klondike mechanics. You build eight foundations in suit while arranging tableau cards in descending same-suit sequences, with one redeal to help you recover.

Setup

  1. Shuffle two 52-card decks together and deal a 10-pile tableau, with 1 card in the first pile, 2 in the second, continuing to 10 in the last pile (55 cards total)
  2. All cards are face up
  3. Set up eight foundation piles for the Aces
  4. The remaining 49 cards form the stock

How to play

  • Click the stock to deal 3 cards face up to the waste pile
  • Build the foundations up from Ace to King in matching suits
  • Cards move automatically to the foundations when they can no longer be built on the tableau
  • In the tableau, build down one rank at any suit (so a 6 of any suit can go on a 7 of any suit)
  • Move multiple cards together as a same-suit descending sequence
  • Any card or sequence can go into an empty tableau pile
  • Play only the top waste card to foundations or tableau; you have one redeal to help recover

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundations, building from Ace to King in each suit.

You win when all eight foundations are complete. You're stuck when the stock is exhausted and no more moves are available.

Tips

  • Don't rush to move complete sequences to foundations; keep them in tableau to unblock buried cards
  • Use empty tableau piles strategically to access important cards
  • During your one redeal, look for patterns in the waste to plan your remaining moves
