How to Play Midnight Clover Solitaire

3 min read
The opening deal of Midnight Clover Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

Build four foundations from aces while managing a 16-pile fan where cards can only be moved from the top. This is a solitaire variant based on the Fan family of games.

Setup

  1. Place four Aces to start the four foundation piles
  2. Deal the remaining 48 cards across the 16 fan piles
  3. All cards start face up

How to play

  • Move exposed cards from the fan piles to build foundations up by suit (Ace through King).
  • On the fan piles, build sequences downward in the same suit (such as placing a 10 of hearts on a Jack of hearts).
  • Only the top card of each fan pile can be moved.
  • Empty fan piles can only be filled with a King.
  • Stuck cards automatically move to the foundations when they can't be played elsewhere. You can adjust this behavior in Settings if preferred.
  • You can use the Draw button once to pull a buried card to the top of its pile, giving you access to a card that was stuck.
  • Since there is no stock, you must work with only the cards in the fan piles.

How to win

Objective: Move all cards to the four foundations, building from Ace to King in each suit.

You win when all cards are built to the four foundation piles.

Tips

  • Expose Kings early so you can fill empty piles and reorganize the fan.
  • Focus on moving top cards from the fan to the foundations or building sequences with same-suit cards.
  • Each empty pile represents a limited resource—use them strategically to access buried cards.
