How to Play Fifteen Solitaire

2 min read
The opening deal of Fifteen Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

A two-deck game with eight foundations building both up and down, and 15 tableau piles where you can build by one rank higher or lower in the same suit. The goal: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundations by building up in suit on four piles and down in suit on four others.

Setup

  1. Eight foundation piles: four start with Aces (build up to King), four start with Kings (build down to Ace, wrapping around); within each group of four, each pile starts with a different suit
  2. 15 tableau piles containing the remaining 104 cards dealt across them face up

How to play

  • Build the four Ace foundations up in the same suit (one rank at a time)
  • Build the four King foundations down in the same suit (one rank at a time, with wrapping)
  • In the tableau, build sequences in the same suit by one rank higher or lower—for example, a 7♣ can go on either an 8♣ or a 6♣
  • Only the top card of each tableau pile can move
  • Empty tableau spaces accept any card
  • All cards are dealt at once with no stock pile

How to win

Objective: Move all 104 cards to the eight foundations by building up in suit on four piles and down in suit on four others.

You win when all 104 cards are built on the foundations. You lose if you run out of moves and cards remain on the tableau.

Tips

  • The flexible tableau building (up or down) creates many options—use this to unblock cards
  • Plan sequences that build in one direction, then reverse direction when needed
  • Focus on creating multiple simultaneous tableau sequences
