Pyramid

How to Play Double Pyramid Solitaire

2 min read
The opening deal of Double Pyramid Solitaire, laid out on a green felt table.

This two-deck pyramid game spreads 104 cards across nine rows and a deep stock. Pair uncovered cards that total 13, or remove single Kings, and use your three passes through the stock wisely.

Setup

  1. The pyramid has 9 rows: 1 card in the top row, 2 in the next, building to 9 cards at the bottom—45 cards total
  2. Each row overlaps the row above it, covering the cards underneath
  3. The rest of the deck forms the stock, good for three passes through it
  4. Cards dealt from the stock go to a waste pile

How to play

  • Only uncovered cards (not hidden by cards below them) can be paired
  • Remove pairs of uncovered cards that add up to 13: Ace + Queen, 2 + Jack, 3 + 10, 4 + 9, 5 + 8, 6 + 7
  • Remove single Kings without needing a partner
  • Drag one card onto its partner to remove both from the board
  • Click the stock to deal one card at a time to the waste, and pair its top card with an uncovered pyramid card when you can
  • When the stock runs out, click it to redeal (you get three passes in total)

How to win

Objective: Clear every card from the pyramid by pairing cards that total 13, or removing single Kings

You win when every card is cleared from the pyramid. You're stuck when no valid pairs remain and the stock is exhausted.

Tips

  • Plan several moves ahead—exposing cards by removing pairs might open up many new options
  • Keep track of which cards you need—with two decks, each card appears twice
  • Don't rush; sometimes waiting for a better card from the stock is smarter than using what you have
